#1 You are moving and in between places.

Renting a storage space gives you a way to move things out of your old place and give you time to clean up the new one before you move in without all your stuff getting in the way.  It also gives you time to sort through your items and decide where you want to put the items in the new home.

#2 You LOVE Christmas, or Easter, or Valentines Day.

You love Christmas, Easter, and Valentines Day.  And you always decorate. But where are you going to store your lights and decorations? Not everyone has a large room to store their decorations. Renting a storage space gives you a place to have all your decorations organized and also kept out of the way. Bonus: it gives you a place to hide Christmas presents.

#3 You have a boat, trailer, or RV. 

You have a boat, trailer, or RV and you are not allowed to park it next to your house or on the street. So, you need a place to park it. Renting a parking spot in a storage facility gives you a way to keep it close enough to use regularly but also out of the way. Most storage facilities are fenced and have cameras. That way you know your boat, trailer, or RV will be safe.

#4 You have a classic car or project car. 

If you have a classic car or more than one classic car but are not able to work on it right now, parking it in a storage facility is a way to keep it from taking up precious garage space. You can't park a project car in the driveway, so parking it in a storage facility is a good way to keep it until you can work on it.

#5 Your house is too small.

Your house is just too small right now, and you can't fit all your furniture into it. A storage facility is a good way to keep your items until you are able to move into a larger place.

#6 Family is away to college or the military. 

You have a family member away to college or in the military, a storage unit is a way to keep their things safe until they are able to move home or to their own place and collect their items. That way they are not shoved in a leaky shed or taking up wanted garage space.

#7 You run a home-based business.

Running a home-based business creates inventory. A storage unit is a good way to store your inventory in a secure manner while waiting for it to sell. It can stay organized and out of the way while you work on growing your business. It is also a safe place you keep your archives that is still easy to get to if needed.

#8 You are renovating your house.

Renovating your house causes a lot of dust and debris. It also means that many of your home's furnishings will be displaced. By storing your furnishings in a storage unit, you are able to keep it clean and out of the way of the renovation.

#9 Decluttering

Decluttering your home makes it seem so much larger. But it comes at the cost of getting rid of precious items. By renting a storage space, you can get the decluttering done, but also still have any items you do not wish to get rid of. They can stay safe in storage until you want them again.

#10 Estate Issues

Losing a loved one is hard enough without having to decide on the spot which of their things to keep and what to dispose of. Renting a storage unit allows you to grieve, while also letting you do the practical work of getting a house ready to sell. It is also useful for moving a loved one out of their home into an assisted living situation. When emotions are running high, it is not the time to make decisions. A self-storage unit gives you the space you need to make decisions.
